Dover, Del. (Sep. 28, 2010) --- Lafayette scored the only goal of the match on a shot that was deflected into the goal by a Delaware State player at Alumni Stadium this evening.
The Leopards improved to 6-5 on the season, while the Hornets dropped their second straight match to fall to 1-10.
The match was scoreless until Lafayette's Catherine Galgano out-fought two Hornets to get off a shot from the corner. The ball deflected off a DSU player in front of the net and past Hornets' net minder Courteney Haas for the goal in the 23rd minute.
Neither team could score in the second period.
Each team managed 12 shots, including seven of goal, in the match. Morgan Vandenberge got off three shots, including two on goal, for DSU. Alexandra Brosky and Theresa Wappett also had two shots on goal for the Hornets.
Lafayette goal keeper Lauren Smedley was credited with seven saves to earn the shutout. Haas had six saves for Delaware State.
