Greensboro, N.C. (Feb. 6, 2010) --- North Carolina A&T led by double-figures five minutes into the game and never looked back in a 70-56 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball win over Delaware State at the Corbett Sports Center today.
The defending MEAC champion Aggies won their ninth in a row to improve to 15-7 overall and 9-0 in league play. The Lady Hornets dropped their seventh straight to fall to 3-19 and 1-8.
Lamona Smalley led North Carolina A&T with 17 points and 12 rebounds. She was 8-for-10 from the field, and also blocked three Delaware State shots. Ta'Wuana Cook added 12 and JaQuayla Berry 10 for the Aggies.
Selena Galloway led three Delaware State players in double figures with 17 points. Cortney Crockett tallied 11 and Sade Bowen came off the bench to add 10 for the Lady Hornets.
After DSU scored the first basket of the game, North Carolina A&T responded with a 16-2 run to take control. Nikia Gorham hit a lay up off an offensive rebound to give the Aggies a 16-4 lead with 14:17 left in the first half.
Delaware State trailed 37-25 at the break.
North Carolina A&T outscored the Lady Hornets 9-2 to start the second half, and opened up a 46-27 lead on a free throw by Gorham with 16:56 left to play.
The Aggies were ahead by as many as 21 on two occasions in the second half, the last time on a three-pointer by Berry to lead 70-49 with 3:51 remaining.
Delaware State returns to action on Monday at Norfolk State.
