Dover (Sep. 20, 2009) --- The Delaware State women's tennis team opened its 2009 fall schedule with a 7-0 shutout of Rider at Wesley College on Sunday. Anna Kovtun (No. 1 singles), Marina Sicic (No. 2), Christina Andrade (No. 3) and Polina Razborova (No. 4) each recorded straight-set wins, while Cassandra Newton (No. 5) and Hannah Adewumi (No. 6) notched one-set victories for the Hornets.
Razborova was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Mallory Garbarvage, while Andrade posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Tricia Ashmore.
Kovtun and Razborova also teamed up for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. Andrade and Sicic were 8-2 winners at No. 2 doubles, while Newton and Adewumi posted an 8-6 victory in the third double match.
Sisic is the lone newcomer from last year's DSU women's tennis team, which posted a 16-4 overall record during the 2008-09 fall and spring seasons.
