FRANKLIN WINS MEAC 100-METER CHAMPIONSHIP

Dover (May 2, 2009) --- Delaware State University senior Nekisha Franklin captured the 100-meter dash title at the 2009 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track and Field championships in Greensboro, N.C., today.

 

The Hornets were 11th in the team standings with 30.5 points. Hampton captured its seventh straight championship with 119 points.

 

Franklin bested the field in the 100 with a time of 11.62 seconds to earn the maximum 10 points for the team. She also earned five points for a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (23.63).

 

Delaware State's Victory McGroary was sixth in the pole vault with a top effort of 2.36 meter to collect three points for the Hornets.

 

DSU's Kristen Dillard was seventh in the high jump (1.65m), while Christen Dillard was eighth in the triple jump (11.67m) and Mallory Ross finished eighth in the 5000-meter run (19:18.62).

 

Delaware State collected two points for a seventh place finish in the 400-meter relay (46.24 sec.) and one point for finishing eighth in the 1600-meter relay (3:48.36).
