HORNETS SHUTOUT EAGLES FOR SECOND STRAIGHT WIN

Baltimore, Md. (Apr. 2, 2009) --- Delaware State won each completed singles match in a 4-0 victory over Coppin State in MEAC women's tennis at Druid Hill Park this afternoon. The Hornets won their second straight contest to improve to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the MEAC.

 

Each DSU singles victory was in straight sets.

 

Polina Razborova led the way with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 3 contest. Razborova is now 4-2 this spring, including 2-0 in No. 3 matches.

 

Delaware State's Cristina Pires and Cassandra Newton each posted 6-1, 6-0 victories. Pires improved to 4-3 on the season after defeating Sharisse Coppin in the No. 4 contest, while Newton is now 4-1 this spring after upending Coppin State's Amatul Bean at No. 5

 

DSU Anna Kovtun was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Ana Sebescen in the No. 1 singles match. Kovtun is now 4-2 on the season.

 

The No. 2 and No. 6 singles matches were unfinished and the doubles contests were cancelled after the Hornets secured the team victory.

 

Delaware State returns to action on Friday at home against UMES. The match gets underway at 12:00 p.m. at the Colonial Tennis Center in Dover.
