Baltimore (Mar. 31, 2009) ---The Delaware State women's tennis team swept three doubles matches to edge Morgan State in a MEAC contest on Tuesday. The Hornets improved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the MEAC.
The teams split six singles contest, but DSU was undefeated in doubles to take the match.
Christina Andrade and Cassandra Newton teamed up for an 8-5 win in the No. 1 doubles match. In the No. 2 doubles contest, DSU's Anna Kovtun and Polina Razborova pulled out an 8-4 win , while Julieta Yung and Hannah Adewumi were 8-1 winners in the No. 3 doubles match.
Kovtun needed three sets to defeat Morgan's Nekesa Thomas in No. 1 singles. Kovtun dropped the first set 7-5, but bounced back to win 6-1 and 6-3 in the next two sets to claim the win.
Delaware State's Hannah Adwumi won in straight sets over Frances Ferdinand at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-1), while Julieta Yung was a 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 winner for the Hornets in the No. 6 singles match.
The Hornets return to action on Wednesday at Coppin State in Baltimore.
