Princess Anne, Md. (Dec. 5) --- The Delaware State women's basketball team led by as many as nine in the first half, but faltered in the second half of a 74-61 loss to Maryland-Eastern Shore in the MEAC opener for each team at the Hytche Center on Saturday. The Lady Hornets have dropped their last five games to fall to 1-5 overall. The Hawks won for the first time in four games this season.
Delaware State led 22-13 when Ferderica Holloman hit a lay up with 8:45 left in the first half. The Lady Hornets led 35-32 at the break.
Maryland-Eastern Shore used a 13-4 second half run to open up a 45-39 lead.
DSU forced the sixth tie of the game, 49-49, when Alexis Abraham hit a three-pointer with 11:20 left to play.
UMES responded with a 7-0 run, and opened up a 56-49 lead on a jumper by Karona Roach with 9:14 remaining.
Sade Bowen was high scorer for Delaware State with a career-high 13 points. Abraham came off the bench to add 12. Her performance included three three-point baskets.
April McBride led UMES with a game-high 25 points.
