Dover (Oct. 27, 2009) --- The Delaware State women's tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule with a first-ever victory over Drexel, 5-2, last weekend. The Hornets posted a 5-1 record this fall, including shutout wins over Wagner, La Salle and St. Francis.
Delaware State won five of the six singles matches.
Cassandra Newton improved to 6-0 in singles play this fall with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Melissa Bohm in the No. 5 match. Christina Andrade and Anna Kovtun also posted straight-set wins. Andrade was a 6-4, 6-4 winner in the No. 2 contest, while Kovtun earned a 7-6, 6-3 victory at No. 4.
Polina Razborova battled back from a first-set loss to post a 0-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at No.3.
Also last weekend, the Hornets suffered their lone defeat this fall, dropping a 5-2 decision to Mount St. Mary's.
Hannah Adewumi and Newton won their singles matches to account for Delaware State's points. Adewumi topped her opponent 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 6 contest, while Newton also won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5. The duo also teamed up for DSU's lone doubles win, 8-6, in the No. 3 match.
