Greensboro, NC --- Delaware State's bid for a fourth straight win went down in a flurry of turnovers and missed shots, resulting in a 78-53 loss to first place North Carolina A&T in a MEAC contest at the Corbett Center Monday afternoon. The Aggies won their 12th straight to improve to 19-5 overall and 12-0 in the MEAC. The Lady Hornets fell to 13-13 and 8-4. The loss was Delaware State's worst to a conference opponent since a 97-62 setback to Howard in 2002. The Lady Hornets were 23-for-60 from the field, including zero-of-six from three-point territory. DSU also committed 25 turnovers, leading to 31 North Carolina A&T points. The Aggies used an 18-3 run early in the second half to take control of the game. Delaware State scored the first basket of the second half to pull to within 32-31. North Carolina A&T scored 10 of the next 12 points, and opened up a 42-33 lead on a jumper by Lamona Smalley with 14:08 left to play. After a DSU free throw made it 42-34, the Aggies ran off eight straight points to pull ahead 50-34. Delaware State was 1-for-15 from the field and committed five turnovers during the NCA&T rally. The Lady Hornets could get no closer than 11 the rest of the way. Delaware State was outscored 46-24 in the second half. North Carolina A&T outrebounded DSU 51-33, including a 22-12 edge in offensive boards. Raquel Collier was high scorer for the Lady Hornets with 18 points. Keyhana Wakefield added 10, while Thea Littlepage had nine points and a team high seven rebounds. North Carolina A&T's Ta'Wuana Cook led four players in double figures with 20 points. She also had a game high eight assists. Jalessa Sams came off the bench to record 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Aggies. Delaware State will play its last four regular season games at home, beginning with a visit from Bethune-Cookman this Saturday (Feb. 23) at 2:00 p.m.
