Dover (Nov. 9, 2008) --- The nationally-ranked Fresno State University Equestrian Team proved too much for Delaware State today, posting a 12-4 victory over the Hornets at DSU's Gambler's Choice Equestrian Center.
The Bulldogs are No. 8 in the latest Women's Intercollegiate Equestrian National Coaches Top 10 Poll.
Fresno State was victorious 6-2 in the English competition, outscoring the Hornets 593-to-553. The Bulldogs also won by a 6-2 score in the Western contest, besting the Hornets 549.5-to-405 in total points.
The highlight of the Western competition for the Hornets was the selection of Amanda Hotz as Most Valuable Performer. Hotz, riding on “Margarita,” posted a 71.5-to-70 win over Fresno State's Elizabeth Thomasian in Reining.
Morgan Scuse was DSU's lone winner in Horsemanship, outscoring Samie Jo Stone 71.5-to-70.5.
Fresno State's Western team won by 3-1 scores in Reining and Horsemanship.
Delaware State's Western riders were competing for the first time since an October 3 competition against Georgia.
The English riders had to deal with wind and rain during their competition. Fresno State won by 3-1 scores in Equitation on the Flat and Equitation over Fences. Elizabeth Frayser Tuttle was Delaware State's lone winner on the Flat, outscoring Fresno's Caitlin Marshall 67-63 on the horse “Emily”.
Kamerra Brown defeated Fresno State's Tessa Beckett 72-70 for DSU's only win in Fences.
The competition was the first for DSU's English team since a match against Southern Methodist on Oct. 12.
The Delaware State Equestrian Team wraps up the fall portion of its schedule this Friday (Nov. 14) at Kansas State.
