HORNETS STORM BACK TO DEFEAT ST. JOE?S IN WOMEN?S TENNIS

DREXEL HANDS DSU WOMEN FIRST TENNIS LOSS

Phila., Pa. (Oct. 7, 2008) --- The Delaware State women's tennis team had its season opening winning streak snapped at six with a 4-3 loss to Drexel Tuesday afternoon. The teams split six singles contests, but Drexel swept three doubles matches to earn the win. Delaware State's Cassandra Newton (No. 6 singles) and Anna Kovtun (No. 4) were straight set winners. Newton defeated Drexel's Melissa Bohm 6-0, 6-1, while Kovtun turned back the Dragon's Emily Lewis 6-3, 6-3. DSU's Hannah Adewumi improved to 7-0 in singles play this fall with a hard-fought three-set win (6-1, 5-7, 7-6). Drexel won the doubles contests 8-1 (No. 1), 8-5 (No. 2) and 8-3 (No. 3). The Hornets return to action on Oct. 13 with a re-sechueld contest against St. Joseph's in Philadelphia.
