Tallahassee, FL --- Delaware State scored 17 unanswered points in the second half en route to a 50-40 women's basketball win over Florida A&M in Gaither Gymnasium Monday evening. The Lady Hornets won for the sixth time in seven games to improve to 9-10 overall and 4-1 in the MEAC. The Rattlers lost their eighth straight to fall to 9-9 and 1-6. Delaware State trailed 23-20 before the decisive rally. Keyhana Wakefield started the run with a lay up, followed by a Raquel Collier basket to give the Lady Hornets a 24-23 lead with 15:28 left to play. Ashlee Burbage nailed a three-pointer and a short jumper in the lane to put DSU ahead 29-23 lead. The run ended with a lay up by Selena Galloway to give the Lady Hornets a 37-23 lead with 11:11 remaining. Florida A&M missed each of its seven shots, while committing four turnovers during the Delaware State spurt. The Lady Hornets opened up their biggest lead, 41-25, on a jumper by Collier with 9:59 left. Florida A&M pulled to within 48-40 on a lay up by Taniyah Dawson with 1:42 left, but failed to score the rest of the way. The first half featured five ties and 12 lead changes, and ended with Florida A&M on top 21-20. Collier was high scorer for the Lady Hornets with 12 points. Wakefield added 10 points, while Katreem Palmer had nine points and led all players with 12 rebounds. Thyeis Halley led Florida A&M with 12 points. Delaware State returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 2) at Coppin State.
