SECOND HALF RALLY KEYS LADY HORNETS PAST ST. PETER?S

Dover, DE --- Delaware State used a 21-2 second half run en route to a 72-57 women's basketball win over St. Peter's in Memorial Hall Tuesday. The Lady Hornets won their second straight to improve to 2-2, while the Peahens lost for the first time in four games. St. Peter's led 36-34 at the half, and pulled ahead 48-41 on a three-pointer by Johnell Burts with 12:54 left in the second half. Delaware State responded with a 6-0 run, and pulled to within 48-47 on a free throw by Raquel Collier with 11:00 left to play. After a basket by Lauma Reke gave the Peahens a 50-47 lead, the Lady Hornets scored the next 15 points to take control. Delaware State grabbed its first lead of the game, 51-50, when Collier hit two free throws with 9:35 remaining. Ashlee Burbage capped off the run with a three-pointer to give the Lady Hornets a 62-50 lead with 5:00 left to play. St. Peter's could get no closer than 10 points the rest of the way. The Peahens led by as nine points in the first half. Collier led four players in double figures with 15 points. Burbage and Keyhana Wakefield each came off the bench to tally 14 and 12 points, respectively. Burbage was four-for-six from three-point territory, while Wakefield hit eight-of-10 free throws. Wakefield, in her first season with the Lady Hornets after transferring from George Mason University, also led all players with seven assists. Katreem Palmer contributed 11 points to the win, while Thea Littlepage led all players with 10 rebounds. Burts was high scorer for St Peter's with 15 points. Her performance included four-of-six shooting from three-point territory.  Delaware State outscored St. Peter's 32-17 off the bench and 26-8 off of turnovers. The Lady Hornets forced the Peahens into 25 turnovers. Delaware State returns to action next Monday (Nov. 26) when nationally ranked Michigan State pays a visit to Memorial Hall. Tip off is 7:00 p.m.
