DOVER, DE --The Delaware State volleyball team walked away with a three-set victory (26-24, 25-18, 25-9) over the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors Tuesday at home at Memorial Hall.
The out-of-conference victory improved the Hornets' overall record to 7-1 on the season.
Aaliyah Mitchell finished with six kills on the day to lead the Hornets attack. got 11 digs from Courtney Nix to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hornets won the first point and never looked back to win the first set 26-24. Delaware State led by seven points at 18-11 before finishing off the set. Delaware State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Delaware State won the second set 25-18 to quickly jump to a 2-0 lead. The Hornets never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 in a set that showcased two lead changes before Delaware State took over the lead. Delaware State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Rutgers-Camden attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Delaware State finished off the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing the third set. The Hornets led from the first point on in the set to earn a 25-9 victory. Delaware State ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, 16 points, to close out the set. The Delaware State offense also got a boost from six aces in the stanza. Delaware State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking six Rutgers-Camden attacks in the stanza.
