LOUDONVILLE, NY --Hannah Sanders notched nine kills with an .818 hitting percentage to help propel the Delaware State volleyball team to a three-set victory (25-23, 25-23, 25-13) over the Siena Saints Friday on the road at UHY Center.
The out-of-conference win improved Delaware State's overall record to 8-1 on the season.
Aaliyah Mitchell finished with 18 kills on the day to lead the Hornets attack. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Paige Ahakuelo had 12 and Courtney Nix had 10. From the front row, Duura Kpea contributed five blocks.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hornets grabbed the first set 25-23 powered by a strong performance on the attacking end. Delaware State registered a .353 attack percentage with 16 kills in the set victory. The Hornets rallied from down five at 13-8 to grab the win.
SET 2 | Delaware State continued to roll after a set-one win by earning a 25-23 victory in the second set. The Hornets persevered in a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied eight times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way. Delaware State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Siena attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Delaware State then finished off the match with a victory in set number three. The Hornets scored first and never trailed in the set to secure a 25-13 victory. Delaware State opened up as much as a 13 point lead at 19-6 before closing out the set, totaling 15 kills along the way. The Delaware State offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza. Delaware State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Siena attacks in the stanza.
