DOVER, DE --The Delaware State volleyball team took care of business in three sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-15) to knock off the NJIT Highlanders Friday at home at Memorial Hall.
The out-of-conference victory improved Delaware State's overall record to 5-0 on the season.
Jalia Dublin finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Hornets offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .412. got 11 digs from Courtney Nix to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hornets took control of the set-one lead at 4-3 and never looked back to win 25-19. Delaware State opened up its biggest lead, six points, to close out the set. Delaware State also supplemented their offense with five aces in the opening set. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four NJIT attacks in the stanza.
SET 2 | Delaware State built on a set-one win by earning a 25-21 victory in set two. The Hornets never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 15-14 in a set that had just one lead change before the Hornets took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | Delaware State finished off the match in a 3-0 sweep after winning set three. The Hornets took control of the set early when the score was 2-1 and never trailed to win 25-15. Delaware State led by 11 points at 18-7 before finishing off the stanza. The Delaware State offense also got a boost from five aces in the stanza.
