DOVER, Del. — The Delaware State volleyball team racked up 10 blocks on the way to a 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-20, 25-22) over North Carolina Central on Friday at Memorial Hall.
The win improved the Hornets' record to 10-5 overall and 1-0 in MEAC play.
Aaliyah Mitchell led the Delaware State attack with nine kills. Defensively, Courtney Nix and Maria Fernanda Cisneros Salas both reached double figures in digs, with 13 and 10 respectively. Nix also recorded a match-high three aces, and Paige Ahakuelo paced the offense with 10 assists.
Delaware State never trailed in the first set, building a lead as large as seven points before closing it out 25-18. The Hornets carried that momentum into the second set, which featured just one lead change before Delaware State pulled ahead for good at 21-20 and finished it 25-20. The team's front row blocked four North Carolina Central attacks in the set.
The third set was tighter, with four lead changes before Delaware State took control for good at 23-22 and closed out the sweep 25-22. The Hornets' front row again came up big defensively, blocking five North Carolina Central attacks in the deciding set.
