HARRISONBURG, VA --The Delaware State volleyball team lost to the George Mason Patriots 3-1 (15-25, 21-25, 25-19, 13-25) Friday at JMU Convocation Center.
The non-conference loss dropped Delaware State to 9-3 on the season.
Aaliyah Mitchell finished with 15 kills on the day to lead the Hornets attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .393. got 12 digs from Courtney Nix to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hornets found themselves in an early hole, losing a tough first set 25-15. Delaware State trailed by as many as 11 points as George Mason never gave up the lead in a set that was notted up zero times before the Patriots took control.
SET 2 | Delaware State fell in set two 25-21, digging a 2-0 hole in the match. George Mason grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that was tied up just once before the Patriots took over the lead.
SET 3 | Delaware State avoided a sweep with a win in the third set to make it a 2-1 match. The Hornets took the set 25-19 propelled by a strong performance on the attacking side. Delaware State put together a .458 attack percentage with 12 kills in the set win. The Hornets ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. The Delaware State offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
SET 4 | Delaware State couldn't keep the momentum and lost in the fourth set 25-13 to drop the match. The Hornets fell behind on the first point and never took the lead before losing the set.
