HARRISONBURG, VA --The Delaware State volleyball team lost 3-2 (17-25, 25-22, 20-25, 26-24, 14-16) to the UNC Greensboro Spartans Sunday at JMU Convocation Center.
The non-conference loss moved Delaware State to 9-5 on the season.
The Hornets were led by a double-double from Aaliyah Mitchell, who registered 18 kills and 11 digs on the day. Jalia Dublin also added 14 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Courtney Nix chipped in for with 17 digs to go with 11 blocks from Hannah Sanders.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hornets fell behind early, losing a tough first set 25-17. Delaware State trailed by as many as eight points as UNC Greensboro grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 in a set that was tied up three times before the Spartans took control.
SET 2 | Delaware State tied the match at 1-1 after a 25-22 set-two win. The Hornets earned the set victory thanks to a solid showing on the attacking side. Delaware State put together a .375 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set win. After the lead changed hands three times, the Hornets took control for good at 22-21 and rode that advantage to victory.
SET 3 | UNC Greensboro responded to win set number three, putting Delaware State in a two sets to one hole. The Hornets came up short by the score of 25-20. UNC Greensboro grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 in a set that was tied up eight times before the Spartans took over the lead.
SET 4 | Delaware State then responded to win set four 26-24 to force a fifth set. The Hornets led from the opening point on in the set to secure the victory. Delaware State opened up as much as a five point lead at 20-15 before closing out the stanza. Delaware State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the set. Delaware State got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked six UNC Greensboro attacks in the stanza.
SET 5 | Delaware State came up short in a back-and-forth match, winning the second and fourth sets, but dropping the first, third and fifth, which they dropped by the score of 16-14, to fall in the match. The Hornets fell in a back-and-forth set five, losing in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied nine times. Neither team led by more than three points in the set.
