LOUDONVILLE, NY --The Delaware State volleyball team needed only four sets (26-24, 25-15, 22-25, 30-28, 30-28) to knock off the Le Moyne Dolphins Saturday at UHY Center.
The out-of-conference victory moved the Hornets' overall record to 9-2 on the season.
The Hornets offense was paced by Hannah Sanders, who finished with 13 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .526. Haley Crawford added 13 and Jalia Dublin chipped in with 12 as part of balanced Delaware State attack. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Autumn Richardson had 13 and Courtney Nix had 12. From the front row, Duura Kpea contributed six blocks.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hornets took control on the first point and never looked back to secure the first set 26-24. Delaware State led by as many as six points at 20-14 before closing out the set, collecting 15 kills along the way. Delaware State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Delaware State put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-15 victory in set number two. The Hornets took the set propelled by a solid showing on the attacking side. Delaware State registered a .308 attack percentage with 13 kills in the set win. The Hornets ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza.
SET 3 | Delaware State saw its chance at a 3-0 sweep end when Le Moyne took set three. The Hornets came up short by the score of 25-22. Le Moyne grabbed the advantage for good at 23-22 in a set that was knotted up six times before the Dolphins took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 4 | Delaware State then responded to claim the match win with a 30-28 set-four victory. The Hornets came out on top of a close battle, winning in a stanza that was tied 13 times and had four lead changes. The Hornets win came in a stanza where 20 of their 30 points came via the kill. Delaware State also supplemented their offense with four aces in the set.
