HUNTSVILLE, AL --The Delaware State volleyball team took care of business in three sets (25-13, 25-20, 25-20) to take down the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devilettes Saturday at Elmore Gymnasium.
The out-of-conference victory improved Delaware State's overall record to 2-0 on the season.
Hannah Sanders finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Hornets attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .615. got 8 digs from Autumn Richardson to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hornets earned a set-one victory 25-13 propelled by a strong showing on the attacking side. Delaware State put together a .387 attack percentage with 16 kills in the set victory. The Hornets ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza.
SET 2 | Delaware State took set two 25-20 to promptly jump to a 2-0 lead. Strong serving helped the Hornets take the set. Delaware State recorded five aces in the set win. The Hornets opened up a 24-18 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there. Delaware State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Mississippi Valley State attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Delaware State then capped the three-set sweep with a victory in set number three. The Hornets took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to earn a 25-20 victory. Delaware State opened up as much as an eight point lead at 12-4 before closing out the set. The Delaware State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
