HUNTSVILLE, AL --The Delaware State volleyball team totaled 12 blocks on the way to a three-set win (25-21, 25-15, 25-15) over the UAPB Lady Lions Saturday at Elmore Gymnasium.
The non-conference victory improved Delaware State's overall record to 1-0 on the season.
Aaliyah Mitchell finished with 15 kills on the day to lead the Hornets offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .407. got seven digs from Paige Ahakuelo along with six blocks from Hannah Sanders and six rejections from Mikayla Moore to lead them defensively.

SET 1 | The Hornets took control of the set-one lead at 5-4 and never trailed to win 25-21. Delaware State led by as many as six points at 11-5 before finishing off the set, collecting 15 kills along the way. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four UAPB attacks in the stanza.
SET 2 | Delaware State took set two 25-15 to quickly jump to a 2-0 lead. The Hornets scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory. Delaware State opened up as much as an 11 point lead at 23-12 before closing out the set. The Hornets hit .409 over the course of the set. The Delaware State offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza. Delaware State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five UAPB attacks in the stanza.

Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Courtney Nix had 14 and Paige Ahakuelo had 10. From the front row, Hannah Sanders contributed seven blocks and Mitchell added six rejections.

SET 1 | The Hornets grabbed control on the first point and never trailed to secure the first set 25-18. Delaware State opened up its biggest lead, seven points, to finish off the set.
SET 2 | Delaware State then dropped set two 25-17, evening the match at a set apiece. The Hornets lost the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before dropping the set.
SET 3 | Delaware State then got back on the winning track, emerging victorious in set three and taking a two sets to one lead in the match. The Hornets won the set 25-22 helped by a strong showing on the attacking end. Delaware State put together a .382 attack percentage with 17 kills in the set win. The Hornets opened up a 23-18 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there. Delaware State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Florida A&M attacks in the stanza.
SET 4 | Delaware State kept the momentum going, earning the match win with a 25-9 set-four victory. The Hornets led from the opening point on in the set to secure the victory. Delaware State finished up the stanza on a strong note, claiming its biggest lead, 16 points, to finish off the set, collecting 15 kills while only registering two attack errors along the way. Delaware State got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Florida A&M attacks in the stanza.
