BALTIMORE, MD --The Delaware State women's basketball team got an 18-point showing from the bench, but fell 83-59 to the Coppin State Eagles on the road Saturday.
The Hornets (4-18, 1-6) had two players score in double figures, led by Kaitlyn Adams, who had 15 points. Jermesha Frierson tacked on 13 points and two steals and Toni Smith added eight points and two steals.
The Delaware State defense was a problem in Saturday's game, forcing 16 Coppin State turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 14 points on the other end of the floor. Smith's two steals led the way individually for the Hornets.

How It Happened
Delaware State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 27-12 at the end of the first quarter.
The Hornets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 45-25 halftime deficit.
Coppin State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 49-25 advantage before Delaware State went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Anise Geiger, to trim its deficit to 49-30 with 6:42 to go in the third. Coppin State countered and stretched its lead to 67-42 heading into the fourth. Delaware State played well near the basket, scoring 14 of its 17 points in the paint.
Delaware State narrowed its deficit in the fourth quarter, but could not get over the hump, losing 83-59. Delaware State took advantage of five Coppin State turnovers in the quarter, scoring nine points off of those takeaways.
