DOVER, DE --The Delaware State women's basketball team kept South Carolina State to just 20 percent from deep in a 2-for-10 shooting performance on the way to a 71-38 win against the Lady Bulldogs at home Thursday.
The Hornets (6-21, 3-9) had five players score in double figures, led by Nevaeh Reaves, who had 16 points and three steals. Amya Scott tacked on 12 points and two steals off of the bench and Ericka Huggins helped out with 11 points and six rebounds.
Liliana Harrison pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second-chance opportunities for Delaware State, grabbing 12 boards and turning them into 14 second-chance points.
Delaware State forced 31 South Carolina State turnovers while committing 22 themselves in Thursday's game. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 23 points on the other end of the floor. Nykesha Sanders led the way individually with four steals.

How It Happened
Delaware State started out the scoring by going on a 12-0 run, culminating in a bucket from Jermesha Frierson, to take an early lead with 7:43 left in the first quarter. The Hornets then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 19-10 advantage. Delaware State capitalized on eight South Carolina State turnovers in the period, turning them into eight points on the other end of the floor.
Delaware State kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 6-0 run starting at the 8:01 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Sanders, to increase its lead to 27-12. The Hornets kept that lead for the remainder of the period and enjoyed a 30-15 advantage heading into halftime. Delaware State dominated in the paint, scoring eight of its 11 points close to the basket.
Following intermission, Delaware State continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 41-20 before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Scott, to expand its lead further to 47-20 with 1:03 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Lady Bulldogs had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Hornets still entered the fourth quarter with a 47-22 edge. Delaware State played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 17 points in the paint.
Delaware State started tacking on points in the fourth almost immediately, going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Huggins' layup, to grow the lead to 54-22 with 8:17 to go in the contest. The Hornets kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 71-38 win. Delaware State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 24 points.
