VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) resumed the 2026 Indoor Track & Field Championships on Monday, February 23, following a two-hour delay caused by a snowstorm the night before. All eight institutions entered Day 2 with their sights set on capturing the 2026 MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championship.
The Delaware State Hornets highlighted Day 2 with a dominant performance, earning six gold medals while breaking DSU, MEAC, HBCU, and personal records across both the men's and women's competitions.
On the men's side, Christopher Johnson's strength exploded early, as he finished what he started on Day 1 by capturing first place in the Weight Throw. Johnson shattered the DSU school record with a mark of 17.12 meters, securing his second gold medal of the championships.
Freshman Nanjo Levec delivered a historic performance for the Hornets in the men's heptathlon, scoring 4,985 pointsto break a DSU school record.
Former MEAC champion Marian Drazan showcased his speed and poise in the mile run, claiming victory over the reigning MEAC Outstanding Athlete of the Year from Norfolk State with a time of 4:09.29.
This year's Track Athlete of the Week, Ian Cain, returned to championship form in the 800 meters, pulling away in a thrilling finish after trailing early in the race. Cain captured first place with a time of 1:51.76.
In the men's 5,000 meters, Lekan Sotonwa secured a fourth-place finish with a time of 14:57.13, followed closely by Drazan, who placed fifth in 14:59.10.
The quartet of Sotonwa, Keith Jenerette, Cain, and Drazan closed out the championships in the men's Distance Medley Relay, taking first place in their heat and finishing ahead of South Carolina State to secure the MEAC Championship runner-up finish.
