Delaware State Men Track & Field Shine at Liberty Open

LYNCHBURG, VA –– The Delaware State men's track and field team delivered a strong showing at the Liberty Open, highlighted by standout performances and a new school record on the track.

Marian Drazan led the charge for the Hornets, capturing first place in the mile with a time of 4:12.53, setting a new Delaware State school record in the event. Drazan's performance marked one of the premier moments of the meet and showcased his continued dominance in middle-distance competition.

The record-breaking momentum continued in the distance events as Lekan Sotonwa clocked 14:59.82 in the 5,000-meter run, also establishing a new school record. Sotonwa's effort placed him among the top finishers of the meet and underscored Delaware State's depth in distance racing.

Additional top-three finishes rounded out an impressive team effort. Sotonwa earned another podium spot in the 5,000 meters, while Ian Cain secured a top-three finish in the 800-meter run. The Hornets' 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Keith Jenerette, Alonzo Sims Jr., Tori Willis Jr., and Sage Phillips, also finished among the top three, closing the meet with a strong relay performance.
