BALTIMORE, MD --The Delaware State men's basketball team got a 31-point performance from the bench, but fell 82-68 to the Morgan State Bears on the road Saturday.
The Hornets (6-20, 1-10) had three players score in double figures, led by Jalen StClair, who had 11 points and three steals. Dean Shepherd tacked on 10 points and Cyril Obasogie helped out with 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
Led by Zion Bethea's three offensive rebounds, Delaware State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 12 boards that resulted in nine second chance points.
The Delaware State defense was a problem in Saturday's game, forcing 14 Morgan State turnovers while committing 11. Those takeaways turned into 21 points on the other end of the floor. StClair's three steals led the way individually for the Hornets.
How It Happened
After falling behind 18-14, Delaware State went on an 8-0 run with 9:43 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Corey Perkins, to take a 22-18 lead. The Hornets then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 34-33.
Delaware State could not pull any closer in the second half, losing by a final of 82-68. Delaware State took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 35 points in the lane.
