DOVER, DE --Rahmir Moore totaled 20 points, but the Delaware State men's basketball team fell to the North Carolina Central Eagles 74-60 at home Saturday.
Moore's 20 point effort led the Hornets (6-21, 1-11). Ponce James helped out with 14 points and five assists and Bessanty Saragba chipped in with four points and seven rebounds.
Led by Saragba's four offensive rebounds, Delaware State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 15 boards that resulted in nine second chance points.
How It Happened
After falling behind 18-14, Delaware State went on an 8-0 run with 9:17 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Dean Shepherd, to take a 22-18 lead. The Hornets then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 33-27 advantage. Delaware State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 33 points.
North Carolina Central proceeded to take a 66-51 lead before Delaware State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Miles Webb's layup, to shrink the deficit to 66-56 with 2:09 to go in the contest. North Carolina Central responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 74-60. Delaware State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for eight of its 27 total points.
