DOVER, DE --The Delaware State men's basketball team got a 42-point showing from the bench, but fell 91-59 to the Howard Bison at home Monday.
The Hornets (6-19, 1-9) had two players score in double figures, led by Dean Shepherd, who had 10 points and three steals. Miles Webb tacked on 10 points and Jalen StClair added nine points and two steals.
Delaware State forced 14 Howard turnovers. The Hornets turned those takeaways into seven points on the other end of the floor. Shepherd's three steals led the way for Delaware State.
How It Happened
Delaware State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 51-26 heading into halftime.
Howard kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 68-38 advantage before Delaware State went on a 10-0 run to shrink the deficit to 68-48 with 9:25 to go in the contest. Howard responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 91-59. Delaware State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 23 of its 33 total points.
