DOVER, Del. — The Delaware State volleyball team swept the Norfolk State Spartanettes 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-18) Sunday at Memorial Hall.
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win improved the Hornets to 12-6 overall and 3-1 in MEAC play.
Emma Patmon led the Delaware State attack with 13 kills. Two Hornets reached double figures in digs, with Courtney Nix recording a match-high 14 and Amanda Santos Juliao adding 12. Nix also had a team-high three aces. Paige Ahakuelo set up the offense with a team-high 17 assists.
Delaware State took the first set 25-20 in a back-and-forth contest that featured two lead changes. The Hornets never trailed by more than five points and took the lead for good at 20-19, pulling away in the second half of the set.
The Hornets carried that momentum into the second set, winning 25-19. Delaware State again never trailed by more than five points and took control for good at 13-12 after two lead changes.
Delaware State closed out the sweep in the third set, leading from the first point and winning 25-18. The Hornets built their biggest lead of the match, seven points, to finish the set. Four aces in the set also boosted the offense.
