WASHINGTON, DC --The Delaware State women's basketball team got a 25-point performance from the bench, but fell 73-63 to the Howard Bison on the road Thursday.

The Hornets (3-14, 0-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Liliana Harrison, who had 14 points. Amya Scott tacked on 13 points and two steals off the bench and Ericka Huggins chipped in as well with 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Delaware State out-rebounded Howard 31-29 in Thursday's game, led by Huggins' seven boards.

How It Happened

After falling behind 2-0, Delaware State went on an 8-0 run with 8:53 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Frierson, to take an 8-2 lead. The Hornets then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 20-15 advantage. Delaware State did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 16 of its 20 points close to the basket.

The Hornets could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 39-35.

Howard continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 48-35 advantage before Delaware State went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Scott, to trim its deficit to 48-41 with 6:22 to go in the third. Howard countered and stretched its lead to 60-48 heading into the fourth. Delaware State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 13 points in the paint.

Howard kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 71-55 advantage before Delaware State went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 71-61 with 39 seconds to go in the contest. The Hornets were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, losing 73-63.
