Frierson Scores in Double Digits In Hornets 58-47 Loss to UMES

DOVER, DE --The Delaware State women's basketball team got an 18-point performance from the bench, but fell 58-47 to the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks at home Saturday.

Jermesha Frierson led the Hornets (4-17, 1-5) with 13 points and six rebounds. Amya Scott also tacked on nine points and four steals off of the bench and Anise Geiger helped out with three points and three blocks off the bench.

Delaware State grabbed 30 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Maryland-Eastern Shore's 26, led by Frierson's six boards.

Delaware State did a great job disrupting Maryland-Eastern Shore shots in the contest, coming away with eight blocks. Liliana Harrison led the way individually for the Hornets with three rejections.
 

How It Happened

Delaware State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 20-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Maryland-Eastern Shore kept adding to that lead, building a 31-15 advantage before Delaware State went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a three from Nevaeh Reaves, to narrow its deficit to 31-21. Maryland-Eastern Shore responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Hornets trailing 33-21 heading into halftime.

Following halftime, Delaware State kept the Hawks from growing their lead before going on a 5-0 run to trim its deficit to 41-34 with 1:49 to go in the third. Maryland-Eastern Shore countered and stretched its lead to 46-37 heading into the fourth. Delaware State knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 16 total points.

Delaware State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 58-47. Delaware State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its 10 points in the paint.
