Orangeburg, SC --The Delaware State women's basketball team knocked down 8-of-17 attempts from beyond the arc, shooting 47.1 percent from deep in a 67-47 victory over the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs on the road Thursday.
The Hornets (4-16, 1-4) had three players score in double figures, led by Nykesha Sanders, who had 17 points. Amya Scott added 11 points and five assists from the bench, and Ericka Huggins chipped in as well with 10 points, nine rebounds, and three steals.
Delaware State out-rebounded South Carolina State 31-25 in Thursday's game, led by Kaitlyn Adams' nine boards.
The Delaware State defense held South Carolina State shooters to just 34.9 percent from the field. The Lady Bulldogs did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only six offensive rebounds and scored zero second-chance points while Delaware State pulled down 23 defensive rebounds.

How It Happened
After jumping out to a 7-5 advantage, Delaware State went on a 13-0 run with 4:44 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Scott, to increase its lead to 20-5, a score that would hold for the rest of the period. Delaware State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 20 points.
The Hornets maintained their lead in the game's second frame and entered halftime with a 28-23 edge. Delaware State dominated in the paint, scoring six of its eight points close to the basket.
Delaware State wasted no time building on its lead, going on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Jermesha Frierson, to expand its lead further to 35-23 with 8:35 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Hornets added four points to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 48-32 edge. Delaware State took advantage of four South Carolina State turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of takeaways.
Delaware State started tacking on points in the fourth almost immediately, going on an 8-0 run to grow the lead to 56-32 with 6:50 to go in the contest. The Lady Bulldogs narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Hornets still cruised the rest of the way for the 67-47 win. Delaware State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 19 points.
