DOVER, DE --Ponce James totaled 22 points, but the Delaware State men's basketball team fell to the Norfolk State Spartans 66-64 at home Saturday.

The Hornets (5-12, 0-2) had four players score in double figures, led by James, who had 22 points, five assists and four steals. Corey Perkins tacked on 12 points, four assists and four steals and Camian Shell chipped in as well with 11 points.

Delaware State collected 27 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Norfolk State's 23, led by Miles Webb's 10 boards.

Delaware State forced 20 Norfolk State turnovers while committing 19 themselves in Saturday's game. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 23 points on the other end of the floor. Perkins' four steals led the way for Delaware State.

How It Happened

After falling behind 15-11, Delaware State went on a 9-0 run with 10:42 left in the first half to take a 20-15 lead. The Hornets then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 34-31.

Norfolk State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 37-33 advantage before Delaware State went on a 9-0 run, finished off by Perkins' jumper, to seize a 42-37 lead with 16:29 to go in the contest. Norfolk State re-asserted control, outscoring the Hornets 29-22 the rest of the way to hand Delaware State the 66-64 loss. Delaware State capitalized on 12 Norfolk State turnovers in the period, collecting 14 points off those turnovers.
