Hornets Defeat Alabama A&M, Going Undefeated in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge

HUNTSVILLE, AL --The Delaware State volleyball team secured a three-set win (26-24, 25-16, 25-19) over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs Saturday on the road at Elmore Gymnasium.

The out-of-conference victory improved the Hornets' overall record to 3-0 on the season.

The Hornets attack was paced by Gerren Tomlin, who finished with 12 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .611, and by Emma Patmon, who had 11. got 12 digs from Emma Crakow along with five blocks from Kelsie Dawson to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Hornets endured a back-and-forth first set to win 26-24 in a stanza that featured 10 lead changes and was tied 13 times. Neither team led by more than four points in the match.

SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Delaware State put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-16 victory in set number two. The Hornets scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory. Delaware State opened its biggest lead of the stanza, nine points, to close out the set. The Hornets hit .370 over the course of the set. Delaware State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Alabama A&M attacks in the stanza.

SET 3 | Delaware State then sealed the sweep with a victory in set number three. The Hornets won the set 25-19. Delaware State took the lead for good at 10-9 in a set that showcased four lead changes before the Hornets took over the lead.

Delaware State will return to action on Friday, September 5 when they face Coastal Carolina in the Wildcat Classic. The first serve are scheduled for 4 p.m.
