Hornets Sweep Eagles 2-0 In Day One of Series

GAME 1 | Delaware State 6, North Carolina Central 0
 

DOVER, Delaware --K. White was dealing on Friday, throwing a four-hit shutout to lead the Delaware State Hornets over the North Carolina Central Eagles 6-0.

White (9-6) went the distance for Delaware State (20-20, 8-8), giving up four hits, walking two and striking out eight.

In the batter's box, the Hornets were led by A. Santana, who went 3-for-3 on the day with two doubles and three RBI. E. Crowe put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. L. Dominguez also helped out for Delaware State, putting together one hit in one trip to the plate while adding two RBI.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets took the lead for good in the fourth, scoring for the first time in the inning. Dominguez drove in two runs for Delaware State with a single, that scored Santana and D. Mitchell.

The Hornets then tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth innings, with their biggest output coming in the fifth when they scored three times. Santana's bases-clearing double drove in all three runs.

GAME 2 | Delaware State 5, North Carolina Central 4

 

DOVER, Delaware --It was a tough day for North Carolina Central pitchers, as the Delaware State Hornets tallied five runs en route to a 5-4 win over the Eagles on Friday.

A. Fonollosa (3-3) got the win out of the bullpen for Delaware State (21-20, 9-8). The right-hander went 1.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing no walks and striking out one. K. Rodriguez also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out one.

At the plate, the Hornets were led by B. Sewell, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double and an RBI. A. Schmidt put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a double. M. Del also chipped in for Delaware State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. D. Mitchell came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State and get them on the board.

After the Eagles rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Hornets came back to retake the lead in the fourth inning. Delaware State pushed across a run on Sewell's two-out RBI double, which brought the Hornets lead to 2-1.

Delaware State's lead had disappeared once the fifth inning arrived and turned into a 3-2 North Carolina Central advantage, when the Hornets re-took control at 5-3. North Carolina Central put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Delaware State still held on for the 5-4 win.
