MEMORIAL HALL, --Kiarra Mcelrath and Najah Lane combined to score 21 total points - 60 percent of Delaware State's points - but the Hornets fell to the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks 69-35 at home Thursday.
Mcelrath led the Hornets (5-23, 1-13) with 13 points and two steals. Ericka Huggins tacked on two points, six rebounds, two steals and two blocks and Lane helped out with eight points.
Led by Circe Rubio Remolar's five offensive rebounds, Delaware State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in four second chance points.
Delaware State did a great job disrupting Maryland-Eastern Shore shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Huggins' two rejections led the way individually for the Hornets.

How It Happened
After falling behind 4-0, Delaware State went on a 6-0 run with 7:34 left in the first quarter to take a 6-4 lead. The Hornets then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 8-6.
The Hornets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 27-14 halftime deficit.
Delaware State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 53-21 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Delaware State played well near the basket, scoring four of its seven points in the paint.
Maryland-Eastern Shore kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 69-30 advantage before Delaware State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Lane's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 69-35 with zero seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game. Delaware State got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring six of its 14 total points.
