Hornets Drop Series to Norfolk State

DOVER, Delaware --The Delaware State Hornets took a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hold on and fell 3-2 to the Norfolk State Spartans Sunday.

K. White (6-5) got the ball to start for Delaware State (15-14, 5-4) and took the loss. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on nine hits, allowing no walks and striking out eight.

In the batter's box, the Hornets were led by A. Santana, who went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI. M. Del compiled a standout performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a double. E. Crowe also contributed for Delaware State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Delaware State got an RBI single from Santana, scoring D. Mitchell from second base.

After the Spartans rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Hornets came back to retake the lead in the sixth inning. L. Dominguez came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State, which brought the Hornets lead to 2-1. The Hornets were unable to hold the lead, as Norfolk State scored two times over the remaining one inning to grab the 3-2 win.

» White fanned eight Spartans hitters.
» Delaware State's highest scoring inning was the sixth, when it pushed one run across.
» Mitchell stole two bases in Sunday's game.
» Delaware State pitchers faced 29 Norfolk State hitters in the game, allowing five ground balls and four fly balls while striking out eight.
» Santana led the Hornets at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
