GAME 1 | Norfolk State 5, Delaware State 3
DOVER, Delaware --The Delaware State Hornets fell 5-3 in an eight-inning matchup to the Norfolk State Spartans Saturday.
At the plate, the Hornets were paced by M. Del, who went 1-for-3 on the day with an RBI. K. Cain compiled a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. B. Sewell came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State and get them on the board.
After the Spartans rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Hornets came back to retake the lead in the fourth inning. Cain came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Hornets.
Delaware State's lead had evaporated by the time the eighth inning came around and turned into a 5-2 Norfolk State advantage, when the Hornets cut that deficit to 5-3. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

In the batter's box, the Hornets were paced by L. Dominguez, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBI. D. Mitchell put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk. K. Noell also chipped in for Delaware State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 2-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Delaware State scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Dominguez.
The Hornets lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the eighth trailing 9-3. Delaware State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Noell, which brought the score to 9-4 in favor of the Spartans. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
