Women’s Lacrosse Comes Up Empty-Handed vs. Long Island Sharks

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Delaware State women's lacrosse had a tough outing on Saturday morning against the Long Island University Sharks, as they fell 19-1.

The Hornets are 1-7 for the season. They are 0-2 in conference play.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Saniya Craft scored the lone Delaware State goal. She also had a team-high four draw controls, three caused turnovers defensively, and two ground balls.
  • London Downing and Craft each had a team-high three shots on goal.
  • Kimaari Mondy started in goal and made three saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST LIU

  • Despite the Hornets winning the opening draw control, the Sharks jumped out to an early advantage. Zahra Gotz and Craft caused defensive turnovers, but LIU would lead 7-0 after one quarter.
  • Aniyah Jones checked in at goalie with 12:38 left in the half. Delaware State had a good stretch moments later with a successful clear, a shot attempt, and a caused turnover by Kehnai Parks. The Sharks added six goals in the second set of 15 minutes for a 13-0 lead at halftime.
  • Mondy subbed back in at goal to start the second half. Craft continued to be a defensive wall. One of her caused turnovers resulted in a free-position shot for her. She cashed in for the only Delaware State score. However, it was 17-1 through three.
  • The Hornets put up a few shots in the early part of the final frame. Mondy made two of her three saves in this quarter, including one at the buzzer. Despite this, the final score was 19-1.

UP NEXT
The Hornets conclude their two-game road trip on Wednesday, March 26 at 4 p.m. They will be in Washington, D.C. to face the Howard University Bison.
