MEMORIAL HALL, --Ericka Huggins notched a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds to help the Delaware State women's basketball team beat the 84-55 at home Saturday.
The Hornets (4-17) had four players score in double figures, led by Huggins, who secured a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Brooke Barnes tacked on 18 points and Kiarra Mcelrath chipped in as well with 15 points and four steals.
Nala Abraham pulled down three offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Delaware State, grabbing 17 boards and turning them into 20 second chance points.
Delaware State did a great job disrupting shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Huggins' three rejections led the way individually for the Hornets.

How It Happened
Delaware State started out the scoring by going on an 8-0 run, culminating in a bucket from Abraham, to take an early lead with 8:16 left in the first quarter. The Hornets then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 20-13 advantage. Delaware State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 20 points.
Delaware State kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 13-0 run starting at the 9:52 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Huggins, to increase its lead to 33-13. The cut into that lead, but the Hornets still enjoyed a 41-25 advantage heading into halftime. Delaware State dominated in the paint, scoring 14 of its 21 points close to the basket.
Following intermission, Delaware State continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 52-35 before going on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a three from Huggins, to expand its lead further to 59-35 with 2:49 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Hornets still entered the fourth quarter with a 62-39 edge. Delaware State knocked down four three-pointers in the quarter to score 12 of its 21 total points.
Delaware State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 78-49 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Destaney Harris' three, to grow the lead to 84-49 with 2:07 to go in the contest. The narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Hornets still cruised the rest of the way for the 84-55 win. Delaware State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 22 points.
