MEMORIAL HALL, --Kiarra Mcelrath scored 18 points and Mahogany Cottingham had 15 more, but the Hornets fell to the Howard Bison 62-45 at home Saturday.
Mcelrath led the Hornets (4-18, 0-8) with 18 points, six rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Cottingham added 15 points and three steals and Najah Lane chipped in as well with seven points.
The Delaware State defense was a problem in Saturday's game, forcing 15 Howard turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Cottingham's three steals led the way individually for the Hornets.

How It Happened
After falling behind 14-7, Delaware State went on a 5-0 run with 2:16 left in the first quarter to narrow its deficit to 14-12. Howard answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Hornets down 17-12 entering the second quarter.
The Hornets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 32-18 halftime deficit.
Delaware State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 50-31 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Delaware State took advantage of two Howard turnovers in the quarter, scoring four points off of takeaways.
Howard kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 60-36 advantage before Delaware State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Lane's three, to shrink the deficit to 60-43 with 2:07 to go in the contest. The Hornets were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, losing 62-45. Delaware State took advantage of four Howard turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of those takeaways.
