Women's Lacrosse Drops Friday Night Contest vs. Furman Paladins

London Downing Scored Twice

GREENVILLE, S.C. - In the first of two games played in South Carolina, Delaware State women's lacrosse fell behind early against the Furman University Paladins. The home team won on Friday 15-3.

The Hornets are 0-4 for the season. Their first NEC game will be on Saturday, March 15 against Le Moyne.

BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST FURMAN
  • The first quarter was a tough one for the Hornets, as the Paladins started with nine straight scores. With 13 seconds remaining, Downing ended the Paladins' attack with a goal of her own. After one, it was 9-1.
  • Delaware State's defense tightened up in the second quarter by only allowing three scores. Mondy saw her second save of the evening in this quarter. While the Hornets were putting up shots, they could not get them past Furman's goalie. With another Downing goal near the end of the half, both teams went to the locker room with the score at 12-2.
  • The high-flying Furman offense was halted in the early part of the third quarter. Mondy made a save, and the Hornets forced a shot clock violation. There was only one goal from each side in this set of 15 minutes. In the final 60 seconds, Delaware State had a successful clear and two shot attempts before a third shot attempt, this time by Stewart, went through. The Paladins led 13-3 after three.
