MEMORIAL HALL, --The Delaware State women's basketball team fell short in an 82-47 loss to the North Carolina Central Eagles at home Monday.
The Hornets (5-20, 1-10) had two players score in double figures, led by Kiarra Mcelrath, who had 14 points and two steals. Najah Lane tacked on 12 points and Ericka Huggins added seven points and nine rebounds.
Aubree Murray pulled down two offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Delaware State, grabbing 10 boards and turning them into seven second chance points.
Delaware State did a great job disrupting North Carolina Central shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Nala Abraham led the way individually for the Hornets with two rejections.

How It Happened
After falling behind 10-1, Delaware State went on a 5-0 run with 4:42 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Lane, to narrow its deficit to 10-6. North Carolina Central answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Hornets down 17-10 entering the second quarter.
The Hornets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 34-21 halftime deficit.
Delaware State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 53-26 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Delaware State's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled three of the team's five third-quarter points.
North Carolina Central kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 67-34 advantage before Delaware State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Huggins' three, to shrink the deficit to 67-40 with 4:36 to go in the contest. North Carolina Central responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 82-47.
