GAME 1 | Delaware State 12, Virginia Union 0
DOVER, DE --Freshman Rhyannon Stanley, freshman Kaylanie Rodriquez and freshman Devyn Carlson combined to throw a shutout on Tuesday as the Delaware State Hornets blanked the Virginia Union Panthers 12-0.
Stanley (1-0) started and picked up the win for Delaware State (1-0), going three shutout innings while giving up three hits, walking one, and striking out four. Carlson was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out two.
Offensively, the Hornets were paced by junior Chandler Martin, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a double, a triple and four RBI. Junior Karly Cain furnished a standout effort as well, going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Freshman Ashlyn Schmidt also contributed for Delaware State, putting together one hit in one trip to the plate while adding a double and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Delaware State's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Martin.
The Hornets then tacked on runs in the second and third innings, with their biggest output coming in the second when they scored six times. The big hit in that inning was a two-run double off the bat of Schmidt.

DOVER, DE --Delaware State received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Hornets put 13 runs on the board and defeat the Virginia Union Panthers 13-3 Tuesday.
Sophomore Kristin White (1-0) started in the circle and picked up the win for Delaware State (2-0). The right-hander went two innings, giving up one run on one hit, allowing one walk and striking out three. Freshman Allyson Fonollosa also made an impact in the circle for the Hornets, throwing two scoreless innings while allowing no hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Delaware State managed to push across two runs in the inning.
The Hornets then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the second inning after the Panthers cut it to 2-1. The Delaware State offense exploded for eight runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of freshman Bria Swewll, which brought the score to 10-1 in favor of the Hornets.
Delaware State kept Virginia Union scoreless before building their lead to 13-1 in the fourth inning. Virginia Union put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Delaware State still coasted to the 13-3 win.
