DOVER, Del. – Even with an early two-score lead over the UMBC Retrievers on Tuesday, Delaware State women's lacrosse lost their second game of the season 20-5.
The Hornets are 0-2 for the season. Their first NEC game will be on Saturday, March 15 against Le Moyne.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST UMBC
- The Hornets came out strong, with Stewart putting Delaware State on the board first. Price quickly followed with another to give the Hornets an early 2-0 lead. But, UMBC responded with a dominant 6-0 run, shutting out the Hornets for the remainder of the first quarter. It was 6-2 after one.
- In the second quarter, the Retrievers extended their advantage, outscoring Delaware State 5-2. Epps scored a man-up goal following a successful clear. Stewart cashed in her second score with about one minute until the break. Mondy saved four shots in the quarter. UMBC led 11-4 at halftime.
- The third quarter proved difficult for the Hornets. They were held scoreless, while UMBC added four more goals. This gave the visitors a 15-4 lead heading into the final frame.
- Delaware State came out fighting in the fourth. Zahra Gotz scored on a man-down situation with Saniya Craft picking up the assist. Despite continued pressure from the Hornets' defense, the deficit was too steep to overcome. UMBC sealed the win with a final score of 20-5.

Delaware State hits the road for their first away game of 2025. They will be in Radford, Va. on Saturday, Feb. 15 to face the Radford University Highlanders. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
