Hornets Fall 90-57 to Coppin State

BALTIMORE, MD --The Delaware State women's basketball team got a 29-point performance from the bench, but fell 90-57 to the Coppin State Eagles on the road Saturday.

The Hornets (3-16, 0-6) had three players score in double figures, led by Ericka Huggins, who had 13 points and seven rebounds. Nala Abraham tacked on 12 points off the bench and Mahogany Cottingham helped out with 11 points and four assists.
 

How It Happened

After falling behind 13-2, Delaware State went on an 8-0 run with 4:24 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Huggins, to narrow its deficit to 13-10. Coppin State answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Hornets down 16-12 entering the second quarter.

The Hornets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 43-27 halftime deficit.

Delaware State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 74-41 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Delaware State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 14 points in the paint.

Coppin State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing an 87-50 advantage before Delaware State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Abraham's layup, to shrink the deficit to 87-55 with 1:29 to go in the contest. Coppin State responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 90-57. Delaware State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 16 points in the paint.
