DOVER, DE --Ademar Santos collected 22 points and Ponce James added 21 and the Delaware State men's basketball team defeated the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens 75-72 at home Saturday.

Santos and James' stellar scoring performances led the Hornets (3-8) in the contest. Santos tacked on five rebounds and two blocks and James added six assists and five steals. Corey Perkins also helped out with 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Delaware State utilized fantastic ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 15 assists on 27 made field goals. James' six assists paced the Hornets.

The Delaware State defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 18 Delaware turnovers while committing 17. Those takeaways turned into 25 points on the other end of the floor. James' five steals led the way individually for the Hornets.

How It Happened

After falling behind 15-14, Delaware State went on a 10-0 run with 9:47 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Zion Bethea, to take a 24-15 lead. Delaware then responded to tie things up at 28-28 heading into halftime. Delaware State got the job done in the paint in the first half, scoring 14 of its 28 points close to the basket.

Delaware then snagged a 51-48 advantage before Delaware State responded by going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Perkins' jumper, to seize a 57-51 lead with 6:18 to go in the contest. The Fightin' Blue Hens then fought back to even things up at 65-65 and send the game to overtime. Delaware State got out on the break in the period, scoring eight fast break points.

Delaware State then took care of business in extra time, outscoring Delaware 10-7 to seize victory by the 75-72 final score.
