FARMVILLE, VA --Led by a 66.7 percent shooting effort from deep, the Delaware State men's basketball team took down the Longwood Lancers 81-76 on the road Saturday.
The Hornets (4-8) had five players score in double figures, led by Ademar Santos, who had 17 points and four steals. Camian Shell tacked on 17 points off of the bench and Corey Perkins helped out with 17 points, five assists and two steals.
Delaware State utilized fantastic ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 15 assists on 28 made field goals. Ponce James' six assists were the most for the Hornets.
The Delaware State defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 16 Longwood turnovers while committing nine. Those takeaways turned into 17 points on the offensive end of the floor. Santos' four steals led the way individually for the Hornets.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 23-17 advantage, Delaware State went on a 7-0 run with 8:43 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Miles Webb, to increase its lead to 30-17. The Hornets then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 34-32 advantage.
Following intermission, Delaware State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 57-52 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Shell's jumper, to grow the lead to 64-52 with 7:41 to go in the contest. The Lancers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Hornets still held on for the 81-76 win.
