PHILADELPHIA, PA --The Delaware State men's basketball team got a 20-point showing from the bench, but fell 67-51 to the Saint Joseph's (PA) Hawks on the road Thursday.
Corey Perkins led the Hornets (4-9) with nine points, five assists and four steals. Ponce James also added 12 points and two steals and Cyril Obasogie chipped in as well with three points and seven rebounds off of the bench.
Led by Bessanty Saragba's three offensive rebounds, Delaware State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in 11 second chance points.
Delaware State's defense held Saint Joseph's (PA) to only 39.3 percent shooting from the field, including 29.6 percent from beyond the arc.
How It Happened
Delaware State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 33-18 heading into halftime.
Saint Joseph's (PA) kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 66-42 advantage before Delaware State went on a 5-0 run to shrink the deficit to 66-47 with 1:10 to go in the contest. The Hornets kept their comeback going, but Saint Joseph's (PA) managed to hold on for the 67-51 win. Delaware State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 16 of its 33 total points.
